The Brown Box (poetry)

“The Brown Box” by Mykell Hatcher-McLarin 5/2/14

…can be confining but also comfortable. What is this box? Brown like the sands of Egypt. Brown like the skin I stroke gently. But leave open so I may venture out in daylight. What I look like on the outside only holds but so many truths. I am Brown, like this box that hold me comfortably. But I am more than Brown, unlike this box that confines me.
